SUMMARY:Members-Only: Small Funders Learning Community
DESCRIPTION:After the small/medium funder structured networking session at the SAFSF 2023 Forum in Washington DC\, we saw continued interest that our members who identify as “small funders” would like more opportunities to connect and learn from one another. We have been brainstorming ways for this group to continue connecting and\, with the help of a funder planning group\, have determined that SAFSF will host the Small Funders Learning Community\, a new virtual space for SAFSF members who self-identify as being a part of a small funding organization. This community’s direction and content will be led by you\, the funders\, and logistics will be managed by SAFSF. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this initial kick-off meeting is to hear from all of you about topics you’d like to discuss\, how you would want this group to be structured\, what frequency you’d like to connect\, what would bring you value\, etc. We look forward to shaping this learning community with all of you. \n\n\n\nThis is a SAFSF member-only group and event. Registration is required. \n\n\n\n\nExternal Agenda

DESCRIPTION:The application period has closed. \n\n\n\nSAFSF is accepting Committee Volunteer Applications for service on the Membership\, Nominating\, and Policy committees for minimum one-year terms beginning January 1\, 2024. The deadline for volunteer submissions is October 1\, 2023 and notifications will be made by October 31\, 2023. \n\n\n\nServing on a committee is a great way to deepen your engagement with SAFSF. You’ll learn more about how we operate\, get to work more closely with a few of your funder colleagues\, help steer SAFSF’s activities and shape recommendations on issues that require SAFSF board action. Most SAFSF Directors have volunteered on one or more committees before joining the board. SUMMARY:Request for Proposals - 2023 SAFSF Forum & Webinar Content
DESCRIPTION:The RFP Deadline has passed. \n\n\n\nAbout the RFP\n\n\n\nMember-driven content makes up an important part of SAFSF’s annual schedule of activities that help agriculture and food systems funders connect with each other\, learn about the field and each other’s work\, and amplify their impact through aligned action. \n\n\n\nIdeas submitted through this RFP may be considered: \n\n\n\n\nfor inclusion as an in-person workshop session or learning dinner at the June 2023 SAFSF Forum in Washington\, DC; or \n\n\n\nas a virtual webinar or series of webinars at another point in the year. \n\n\n\n\nSubmission is open to any active funding organization; SAFSF membership is not required. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRequirements for Webinar and Forum Content Proposals\n\n\n\nSessions proposed for either a webinar or the Forum should: \n\n\n\n\nHighlight agriculture and food systems issues and solutions that are timely\, actionable\, equity-centered\, and aligned with SAFSF’s values.\n\n\n\nAllow speakers and participants to exchange information\, expertise\, lessons learned\, and/or points of view in a way that benefits their individual and collective practice.\n\n\n\nHelp participants connect with each other to build relationships\, discover areas of shared work\, analyze funding strategies\, and explore future collaborations.\n\n\n\nEngage and connect a diverse range of funder and invited practitioner participants who reflect different parts of agriculture and food systems relevant to the session topic.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPolicy Considerations\n\n\n\nWe encourage policy-focused proposals that help funders learn\, engage and develop collaborative strategies on federal\, state\, tribal\, and/or local policy\, as well as grassroots community organizing and power building to influence public policy.  We expect that half of the sessions presented at the 2023 SAFSF Forum and throughout the year will have a policy focus. \n\n\n\nKey areas of policy interest include discussions of policy priorities\, advocacy\, and funding strategies related to: \n\n\n\n\nThe farm bill and key states represented on Congressional agriculture and appropriations committees\n\n\n\nChild Nutrition Reauthorization and other nutrition incentives legislation\n\n\n\nUSDA funding and equity programs\n\n\n\nState legislative policy issues/campaigns\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFocus Areas\n\n\n\nWe also encourage both general and policy-specific proposals to be mindful of the Focus Areas we will continue to emphasize in 2023: \n\n\n\n\nClimate change;\n\n\n\nConsolidation and concentration; and\n\n\n\nLand access.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Considerations for Forum Content Proposals\n\n\n\nProposals for the SAFSF Forum must have strong interactive\, storytelling\, movement\, collaboration\, hands-on\, or other elements that make a compelling case for in-person presentation. We do not anticipate offering a virtual or hybrid option for Forum participation. Both workshop sessions and learning dinners will take place in concurrent blocks. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Sessions\n\n\n\nFunders whose proposals are accepted as workshop sessions are expected to pay the registration and travel expenses for themselves and any non-funder speakers included in their presentation. We also encourage funders to support their non-funder speakers with honoraria for their participation.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Dinners\n\n\n\nYou may also submit your proposal for consideration as a learning dinner. The learning dinner format is best suited to a less formal presentation style and topics that lend themselves to lively table conversations. In addition to the costs above\, funders whose proposals are accepted as learning dinners are also expected to underwrite the full cost of food and drink for those dinners. (Attendance numbers may be capped depending on the capacity of the chosen venue\, either in the conference hotel or at a nearby restaurant.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeadlines and Questions? \n\n\n\nAs mentioned above\, SAFSF is pleased to accept content for 2023 SAFSF Forum and webinars from all funders\, even those who are not members of SAFSF. Proposals must be submitted online by 11:59 PM PT on Monday\, January 9\, 2023. Visit our website to familiarize yourself with the Forum theme and to find full RFP submission process details. If you have questions\, please reach out to SAFSF Program Director\, Erin Olschewski at erin@safsf.org.

SUMMARY:Deadline for Session Proposals for 20th Annual SAFSF Forum
DESCRIPTION:SAFSF is pleased to accept concurrent workshop and learning dinner proposals for the 20th Annual SAFSF Forum from all funders\, even those who are not members of SAFSF. Proposals must be submitted online through the form by Monday\, January 10\, 2022\, at 12 pm PT.  \n\n\n\nWe strongly encourage you to read through our session idea guidelines for frequently asked questions\, including details about what we are looking for in this year’s session proposals.  \n\n\n\nThe three-day Forum offers many opportunities for peer learning\, networking\, and collaboration. Plenary and workshop sessions and learning dinners allow funders to learn from each other as well as leaders in the field. Day-long and half-day site visits encourage participants to learn from work happening in the region and identify themes that might inform their own work once they return home. \n\n\n\nThe Forum theme and agenda are developed by and for funders who are working on a variety of issues\, approaches\, and geographies\, attendees will leave with inspiration\, strategies\, and connections for impactful engagement related to their own work within the food system. \n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE + SUBMIT
